How to fix the 5C error in your Samsung washing machine

Clean the pump filter

Your Samsung washing machine’s drain pump is crucial as it pumps water out of the main drum allowing it to be drained away. The drain pump filter offers protection to the pump by filtering the water that drains out from the drum. However, it is common for lint to build up in the filter. Also, small items like buttons, coins, hair clips, and more can get trapped in the filter. This may result in filter clogging.

If your washer’s filter is clogged, your machine may develop drainage problems, which may cause a 5C error. Sometimes, your machine won’t display the 5C error, but you will notice that your clothes are still wet when the cycle finishes, or it might take too long to complete the wash cycle. Your machine may also become noisy or vibrate aggressively as a result of not spinning properly. Hence, it’s important to clean your pump filter regularly to maintain efficiency.

How to clean the pump filter step-by-step guide

  • Locate the small access door found on the front of your washing machine.
  • You will need a shallow dish and a towel on the floor place a towel on the floor.
  • Press firmly on the access door to open it. Other models would require the use of a coin to open the door (consult your washing machine for the best way to open the access door). After the access door is open, you will find the emergency drain horse pipe as well as the pump filter.
  • Pull out the emergency drain pipe and position the spout over the dish. Hold firmly at the tip with one hand and untighten and remove the cap with the other hand. Now let the water flow out into the container until it stops flowing. Now the emergency hose is essential; if you proceed to open the pump filter without draining the pump, a ton of water can spew out of it, flooding the floor of your house.
  • Return the cap on the emergency drain pipe properly in position.
  • Open the pump filter and remove it from the housing by rotating anti-clockwise.
  • Remove any dirt from the filter and wash it to clean it properly.
  • After that, wipe the drain pump filter recess with a damp cloth.
  • Replace the Drain filter by rotating it clockwise
  • That’s it! Now you can close the access door.
  • If you are still receiving the 5C error, check the drain hose pipe to ensure it’s not blocked.
